practical steps

Maine stands for the civil rights of all its residents. We do not support the presence of masked men in our streets, posing as law enforcement, abducting our neighbors.

Here are practical steps you can take to keep yourself and fellow Mainers safe.

Save the Maine ICE Hotline in your phone: (207) 544-9989.

Call and report suspicious activity in your neighborhood, on the highway, and wherever you see a federal vehicle. Be aware that many ICE agents will not be in marked vehicles, but will typically be driving dark-colored SUVs and sedans with tinted windows, out-of-state plates, or no plates at all. Also be on the lookout for vehicles marked with Department of Homeland Security and Border Patrol identifiers.

When reporting, remember SALUTE:

  • S: size, how many agents?

  • A: actions, what are they doing?

  • L: location and direction

  • U: uniform or clothing

  • T: time and date

  • E: equipment, including vehicles and license plates

If you know anyone who needs immigration legal or community support, contact Maine’s Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP) ilapmaine.org (207) 780-1593) or Maine Immigration Refugee Services (207-782-0260).

·Remember that local police forces serve you, not the federal government. If you believe you are in immediate physical danger, do not be afraid to call 911 as a last resort.
